A Marine veteran after high school he entered the Marine Corp. for a three-year tour of duty. Upon completing his military obligation, Charles returned to his academic studies and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and a Master of Science Degree from Adelphi University.
He joined Grumman Aerospace on Long Island in 1962 as a Systems Engineer. During his early years at Grumman he worked on a variety of programs. For the eighteen year period of 1964 through 1983, Charles was assigned to the E-2C Early Warning Aircraft Program where he served in various Engineering and Program Management positions. Assisted Program in the sale of E-2C to Israel, Japan and finally Program Manager for all Development Programs for the E2C AEW System. In February, 1983 relocated to Grumman’s Rework Facility at St. Augustine after being appointed Program Director for the Malaysian A-4 Aircraft Program. In June 1986, after successful completion of the Malaysian A-4 program, Charles was appointed Director of Aircraft, Test and Operations for the Joint STARS Program in the Grumman Melbourne Systems Division. In 1986, he was appointed Deputy Director for the Joint STARS Program and was subsequently appointed Joint STARS Vice President on 1 December 1994.
He had a special love of the Lord. He was asked to be a Eucharistic Minister while residing on Long Island. His special ministry was to bring Holy Communion to the sick. He also served as Sacristan, was involved with the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. He enjoyed playing golf with other “Grummanites” and in later years, enjoyed researching our family ancestry. His relaxing time was cruising to Europe with his wife, keeping a daily diary on places and events.
Charles will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol of 62 years, a dear father to Charles, the III, Susan, Deborah and Peter, his eleven grandchildren, Hayley, Chuck the IV, Alexander, John, Samantha, Dominic, Will, Sean, Zachary, Noah and Abby.
A Celebration of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (1136 Seminole Drive, Rockledge, Florida 32955) on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11:00am followed by Celebration of Mass at 11:30. A light repast will be at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955 after the service.
An Honorable Committal Service for Charles will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 10:00am at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida. Please note to use LANE "C' for the location with arrival 10-15 minutes before the service time.
