Betty Jane Boman (Clark) , 93, died peacefully in her sleep on July 30,2022. She was a devout Christian and a member of local Southern Baptist churches through the years. Though we miss her we know that she was ready to go “Home".
Betty was born Dec 9, 1928 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin to Roy and Theresa Clark, the eighth of eleven children. She grew up and graduated high school in White Lake, WI, and worked as a telephone operator before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1949. She trained in weather observation at Chanute AFB IL and was then stationed at Eglin AFB, Ft Walton Beach, Florida, where she met and later married fellow Airman & the love of her life, Ben. After their honorable discharges they lived a few years in Tennessee and Indiana before moving to Florida in 1956 with family members working in the construction industry. After living in Roseland and West Melbourne, the Bomans settled into their permanent Satellite Beach homestead in 1960 where they raised their four Children.
Betty was a wonderful mother and Homemaker and in the early 70's also worked at the WT Grant Dept. Store in Satellite Beach. She later worked as a tech inspector for Regency Electronics until retiring in 1990.
Besides her family, quilting was one of Betty's passions, and she donated many baby quilts to new mothers at Holmes Regional Medical Center, as well as adorning all of her family’s beds with her beautiful works. Volunteering was also a big part of her life, including with the Satellite Beach Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, as a Gray Lady at the school clinics, and as a Little League Mom. She valued her years and the friendships she made as a “Pink Lady” at Holmes Regional and as a driver with Aging Matters of Brevard Meals On Wheels.
Betty & Ben also loved being puppy raisers for SE Guide Dogs, and she & dog Odie spent many hours bringing joy to others with Space Coast Therapy Dogs. Betty also helped out with Satellite Beach's 55 + Club and relished the camaraderie & wonderful friendships she made there through the years.
She was an avid reader and loved Jan Karon’s Mitford novels. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing BUNKO, cards, board games, and was a keen Cribbage player. Betty learned piano in her teens and continued to play into her 90’s. She enjoyed singing in her church choirs and loved many different flavors of music, from traditional hymns to Swing, Boogie Woogie, Opera & Waltz, (with a special fondness for Andrea Bocelli & Andre' Rieu), Blue Grass, Country, Folk and Rock N Roll.
She & Ben enjoyed local fishing trips together, as well as trips to Canada, Scotland and around much of the U.S. They instilled a love of nature to their children and grandkids, and delighted in many camping trips, beach & water days spent together.
Betty shared 59 happy years with Ben until his passing in 2010. She was also predeceased by son Joel, and is survived by three grateful children, Benjamin Matthew Boman, Cynthia Temple and Susan LaFontaine (Steve), as well as six grandchildren, Michelle, Kristin, Derek, Brian, Timothy, and Robin, and 8.5 great grandchildren (Kayla, Tripp, Jack, Sam, Aaron, Arielle, Lola, Bennie and baby girl to be).
She lived with dignity, compassion, humor and a zest for life. The love that she nurtured her children and grandkids with as incomparable, and we will carry that priceless gift in our hearts all of our days. She treasured her friendships and shared her love of laughter, acceptance and trust with all who knew her. We are richer in spirit to have known her. May she rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Saint Jude Children's Hospital and Aging Matters in Brevard.
A visitation for Betty will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Life Event Center at Florida memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida.
