Shirley L. Johnson, 78, loving wife, mother, and grandmother of Rockford passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2014 in her home after a long illness. Born in Barrellsville, Maryland on January 24, 1936, the daughter of Howard Schaffer and Mae Showalter (Clarden Bridges). Married Alwin E. Johnson in Sacramento, California on November 9, 1959. She retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company. She was very involved in the church community and was also working on her Associates Degree in Ministry. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling. Above all else, she enjoyed her family. She will be missed by her family more than words could ever say. God bless you, we love you! Survived by her children, Carl (Joanna) Johnson of Loves Park, Cindy (Charles Jackson) Lierman of Rockford, Audra (Jeff Vautsmeier) Perrine of Dakota; grandchildren, Nick August, Brian August, Hope (Roberto) Escalante, Faith Lierman, Kaleb Jackson, Christopher (Jessica Dion) Perrine, Shawn Perrine; great-grandchildren, Micaiah August, Brittney August, Nicholas August, Tristyn August, Xavier August, Patrick Lierman, Nathaniel Lierman, Roberto Escalante Jr., Isaiah, and Jayden; and many special friends. Predeceased by her parents, husband, and grandchild Keven August. Special thanks to Pastor Rene Escalante, the staff at Davita Dialysis, and close friends who have helped Shirley and the family in so many ways. We will be forever grateful to have had her in our lives. Funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home And Memorial Gardens, 8800 N.
