Doris Kern

Doris Gibbs Kern, of Daugherty Township, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Franciscan Manor, Patterson Township. Born August 30, 1934, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Stella and Lawrence Gibbs. She retired from Verizon Telephone Co. after 36 years as an Assistant Manager in the Business Office. She was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in New Brighton where she was an Eucharistic Minister. She was an active member of the Women's Club of Beaver Valley, Holy Family Christian Mothers & Holy Family Gold where she served as an officer in various capacities. Doris and her late husband Jim loved to travel, visiting Europe several times, and many places throughout the United States. They loved spending time in the winter at Ft. Myers Beach in Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Kern (2020), two brothers; Leroy and George Gibbs, two brothers in law; Raymond and Joseph Kern and three sisters in law; Jean Firth, Ellen Ellis and Nancy Mahon.

Surviving is a daughter; Carol Gibbs (Michael) Cerilli, two grandsons; Brian (Sarah) and Scott, four great grandchildren; Emily, Gavin, Dominick and Alaina. Also surviving is a brother; Robert (Marylyn) Gibbs, two brothers in law; John and Edward Kern; and two sisters in law; Charlotte Goda and Mildred Bailey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 6-8pm at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). , and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, 10am at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, at the Holy Family Worship Site, New Brighton. Everyone is asked to please meet at church.
