Don married Margaret (Peggy) Clayton in September, 1945. Together they have five children. Although Don spent many years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he also resided in Lancaster Pa, Fort Wayne In., Florida and Georgia. Don served in the US Navy in World War II as a Radarman onboard the USS LSM 469.
He bravely served his country and received a Purple Heart, putting his life at risk to save a fellow seaman. His love and devotion to the military and his country never ceased. He was a proud American. Don was a very intelligent man and enjoyed reading, learning and keeping up on current events.
Don loved the Lord and was an example of strong faith to his entire family. Proceeding Don‘s death was Margaret Garvin on August 25, 2010.
Don is survived by his five children: Susan (Norman) Pitt; Diane Garvin, Jennifer (Mick) Sobieck; Bruce (Kelly) Garvin and Donna Georgen. He is also lovingly remembered by his 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Thursday December 12, 2019 from 11am until time of service at noon at Saul Gabauer Funeral Home, Inc., 273 Route 68 (Adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park). Pastor Mick Sobieck will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully ask that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Donald's memory.
