Robert John Nellis

Robert (Bob) John Nellis, age 90, October 19, 2023, Shelby Twp, MI, peacefully left this world surrounded by his loving family. He was a strong and generous man and more than willing to help his family and others during their time of need. Bob was born in Pontiac, MI to Theodore and Mabel Nellis on April 8, 1933. Bob was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1955 and was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and Ft. Carson, Colorado. He married Shirley Ann Futrell on August 21, 1955, and they raised five wonderful children. Proud grandpa of six grandchildren, Robert Nellis, Sarah Nellis, Alyssa Tirone, Dominic Tirone, Holly Nellis & Mark Irrig. He took a great deal of pride in his family and enjoyed showing them off, whether to friends or perfect strangers. In 1959, he landed an accounting role with General Motors, and his career would span 33 years, which inspired his love for cars. While it was nearly impossible to compete with the shopping prowess of his wife of 67 years, he relished their weekly trips to all the local retail destinations. A card game, watching baseball, or getting together with friends & neighbors were some of his simple pleasures. Bob is survived by five children and their spouses; John, Cathy (Frank) Tirone, Jim (Vicki), Tom (Minerva), and Lisa (Mark) Irrig, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his mother, father, and brother. He will be missed dearly. The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
