John was born on July 21, 1969, in Greenville, Ohio. He graduated from Troy Athens High School in 1987 and attended the University of Michigan earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. John returned to U of M where he earned a Master of Business Administration in 1999.
He was employed by EDS from 1991 until 2000, when he joined DTE. He most recently was the Manager-Marketing for DTE’s Electric Sales & Marketing division.
John was a long-time attendee of University Presbyterian Church in Rochester Hills. He served as a Den Leader for Cub Scouts, and later as an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #360. He also loved mentoring the AdamBots High School Robotics Team. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, photography, and BBQ Smoking. During Covid, he developed a passion for unusual gardening resulting in 6ft tall hydroponics and nurturing a lemon and lime tree.
An avid hiker, John vacationed and hiked many of the National Parks. A sportsman by nature, he had a great love of baseball, and was a starting “lefty” pitcher for the Troy Athens varsity baseball team.
On May 1, 1993, John married the love of his life, Michelle Young and they have enjoyed 30 years of marriage. John is the proud father of his daughter Katie Bueltel and his son Jack Bueltel. He is survived by his parents James and Joan Bueltel, a sister Terri (Jim) Kemp, and nephews Josh and Jason Kemp. He is also survived by: Father & Mother-in-law Walt and Donna Young; Brother-in-law Mark Young; nephews Chase and Collin Young, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
John was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. John was incredibly smart, had a great smile, a wicked sense of humor and was always looking for ways to help others. He loved his family fiercely and had tremendous courage as he faced his Leukemia diagnosis. He valued being able to provide for and protect his family and truly enjoyed spending time with the ones he loved. He will be greatly missed.
The Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at University Presbyterian Church, 1385 S. Adams Road in Rochester Hills. Dr. Patricia Jacobs officiating. The service may also be viewed live. Link to livestream is attached to this site.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester.
