Janice Irene Seidell was born June 6, 1938 in Reno, Ohio (Marrietta). She is the daughter of John and Mildred Warfield (Treadway). Janice grew up in Lancaster, Ohio and graduated from Berne Union High School in Sugar Grove, Ohio, class of 1956. After high school, Janice and her brother Jim, enlisted together in the United States Marine Corp where she served as Lance Corporal from 1956 to 1959. Upon honorable discharge, Janice continued her association with the Corp through her active membership in the Women Marines Association.
She married Richard Lee Seidell on October 17th, 1959 in Imlay City, Michigan. Upon marriage to Richard, they relocated from Washington, D.C. and settled in Rochester, Michigan to begin their life together and start a family. After raising four children, Janice began working as a paraprofessional in the Rochester Community Schools where she worked with small groups of students providing basic reading, writing and math assistance. Later in her career she focused more of her time with children of special needs, which she found to be most rewarding.
Janice was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Rochester where she was part of the Church’s various committees, familiar volunteer with their community food pantry program, and a regular greeter for Sunday services. She enjoyed reading volumes of books, being a Girl Scout Leader for her two daughters and neighborhood girls, an avid bowler in several leagues where she worked on perfecting the dreaded 7-10 split, and especially enjoyed camping/traveling with Richard in their retirement years.
