Ernestine Miles

Ernestine Miles (Avitts), age 97, of Rochester Hills Michigan passed away Monday June 15, 2020. Ernestine was born the daughter of Charles and Winnie (Haney) Avitts in Leachville Arkansas on July 24, 1922. She graduated from Portageville High School, class of 1941 and received her bachelor degree from Michigan State University in 1949. Ernestine married Charles Miles on December 27, 1953. Ernestine worked in education until she had children. She and her husband Charles raised their family in Rochester Hills. Ernestine had a passion for sewing and cooking, and she loved classical music. Ernestine is survived by her children David (Janet) Miles, Steven Miles, Donald Miles, and Martha Miles; grandchildren Laurel Schumacher, Katie Becker, and Lyndi Marth; She was predeceased by husband Charles; and her parents Charley and Winnie (Haney). Ernestine’s family welcomes all to a visitation on Wednesday June 24th from 4 - 6 pm at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester. A funeral service will be held on Thursday June 25th at 10:45am at First Baptist Church of Rochester located at 6377 Orion Rd in Rochester Hills. Burial will follow at Mt. Avon Cemetery.
