Of East Lansing, MI (formerly of Dimondale, MI) went to be with the Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the age of 85. Dora was born to parents Perry C. and Bernice Schmidt on December 5, 1935 in Sand Lake, MI. Growing up in the depression, she moved with her family to Lake Orion, MI where she graduated high school in 1954. She then went on to nursing school at McAuley School of Nursing in Detroit, MI. She served as class president, graduating in 1956 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dora worked at St. Joseph Mercy in Pontiac, MI for 13 years, and then at Crittenton Hospital for 24 years before retiring in 1988. She then moved to Ovid, MI, opening 2 Golden Years Adult Foster Cares. Dora enjoyed golfing, reading, crocheting, quilting, and helping those in need. She was a member of CMI concert choir, an RSVP volunteer for 20+ years, served as camp nurse for Wolverine Christian Service Camp for 35 years, and Rock Lake Christian Assembly Camp, attended Holt Christian Church. Dora is survived by her son, David (Abigail) Perry of Jackson MI; daughters-in-law Michelle Perry and Angie Perry and son-in-law Christopher Gruenberg; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother Loren (Joyce) Schmidt; and a host of nieces, nephews, and “adopted” children. She is preceded in death by her parents; children Karen L. Gruenberg, James W. Perry, Thomas C. Perry, Marguerite “Marcie” A. Gruenberg, and Christopher A. Perry, grandson Anthony; and siblings Katherine (Melvin) Johnston and Ardise (Richard) Mersino. Family will receive friends at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W University Dr., Rochester, MI on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 3-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11 AM, with gathering beginning at 10 AM until time of service, at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester. She will be laid to rest with her children with a private family service at West Pine Cemetery, Coral, MI. The family would like to thank Senior Community Care of Michigan, Vista Springs Edgewood, and Vista Springs Timber Ridge for their care of Dora over the last several years.
