Algirdas A. Juocys

He was born in a Displaced Persons Camp in post-World War II Germany on December 4, 1946, to parents Vanda (Mineikite) and Pranas Juocys. He is survived by his wife, Ewa Matuszewski; daughters Emilia and Gabriela (Adam Goess) and grandson Henry. Dr. Juocys graduated from Wayne State University and the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM).

Dr. Juocys has long been active in Michigan’s osteopathic associations. He was named the 2006 Family Physician of the Year by the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP). He is a past president of the Oakland County Osteopathic Medical Association (OCOMA) and held the position of Chair at the Department of Family Medicine at Crittenton (now known as Ascension Providence Rochester) Hospital. Dr. Juocys is a past-president of the Michigan Osteopathic College Foundation. In 2010, he received the MSUCOM Dean’s award for meritorious contributions.

Dr. Juocys, Chief Medical Officer of Medical Network One is a retired (Colonel) decorated State Surgeon of the Michigan Army National Guard. He was deployed for an active tour of duty in Iraq in 2004 (Camp Balad) and 2006 (U.S Embassy-Baghdad) and also participated in relief efforts to provide medical assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina at Fort Custer in 2005. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic he organized and directed numerous community pop-up vaccination and wellness clinics in underserved communities throughout southeast Michigan. He was passionate about his family, Lithuanian culture, community, and his patients.

Visitation will be held on December 14, 2023 from 3pm-8pm at the Pixley Funeral Home (322 W. University Drive, Rochester, MI 48307). A military funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11am at the same location. Inurnment will occur in Kaunas, Lithuania. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Legion.
