Thomas Alma Brown died on Monday August 12, 2024, from Alzheimer’s disease in South Jordan, Utah at The Peaks Memory Care Center where he lived and was cared for during the final six months of his life. He was 85 years old.
Tom was born and grew up in Salt Lake City. His parents are Elmer and Vera Brown. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1957.
On May 12, 1960, Tom married the love of his life, Barbara King in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple. They had two sons, Scott and Steven.
Tom’s life revolved around his family and his faith. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different callings including bishop, ordinance worker in the Draper Temple and as a missionary with Barbara in the Salt Lake City South Mission.
Professionally, Tom worked for A. B. Dick Co. for 25 years and for Western Paper Company for another 25 years. Tom was close friends with his co-workers and with many of his customers. He was known for his sense of humor, quick wit and ability to start up a conversation with anyone, which is something he always did.
Tom and Barbara were inseparable – together even until the end. Tom and Barbara explored the world together. Going by cruise ship was Tom's favorite way of traveling.
Tom loved boats and going to Lake Powell. His children claimed no one gave better water skiing rides than their dad. He also had an affinity for new cars, especially the fast ones.
In death, Tom was reunited with his mother, father and son Steven. He is survived by his wife Barbara, son Scott, daughter-in-laws Jennifer and Julie, eight grandchildren – Brandon, Josh, Maren, Elisa, Jeffery, Elizabeth, Kyle and Melanie – 12 great-grandchildren with another on the way, and by his sister Cheryl (Paul) Smith.
Tom’s memorial service will be held at noon on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the Draper 9th Ward, 12353 South 600 East in Draper, Utah. His family will hold a viewing on August 19, 2024 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. before Tuesday’s service.
Tom’s internment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive in Salt Lake City, Utah.
