Edward John (EJ) Passey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, passed away on September 15, 2024. He was born on February 19, 1942 to Beth Elena Hendricks and Howard Budge Passey in Logan, Utah. EJ was the second of four children growing up in Coalville, Utah, Prescott, Arizona and Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Granite High School and then served a mission in the Gulf States Mission. During his college days he served in the Utah Air National Guard and was recognized as Airman of the Year. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in accounting.
EJ met his sweetheart, Pamela Monson in Denver, Colorado. They were married on July 20, 1964 in the Logan Utah Temple. Their union produced six sons and one daughter. After graduating college, they lived in Salt Lake City, Utah for three years, Casper, Wyoming for fourteen years, and then moved back to Salt Lake City where they have resided since 1985.
EJ was a highly successful Certified Public Accountant as a partner with Fox and Company, Grant Thornton and then was a cofounder of Foote, Passey, Griffin and Company, one of Utah’s largest accounting firms before they sold the business to CBIZ. He also served as the president of the Wyoming chapter of the AICPA.
EJ’s passions included gardening, travel, rodeos, boating (and sharing his boat), serving others, and spending time with his extended family. He was a past president and lifelong member of Rotary International. He loved his association with the Sugar House Rotary Club and spent countless hours over decades with the Chili Open raising funds for many charities.
EJ is a devout follower of Jesus Christ and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many roles and leadership positions including serving for many years at the Salt Lake Temple.
Preceded in death by his wife, Pamela; eldest son, Edward John Jr (Ted); and sister, Kaye. Survived by his children; Allyson (Ted deceased), Eric (Heather), Eldon (Stacy), Jeff (Tara), Carolyn, Paul (Tiffany), Kent (Ashley), twenty-five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, 11:00 am at the Cottonwood 4th Ward chapel, 5565 Neighbor Lane (1610 East). A viewing will be held from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at the church prior to the service. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The family is very appreciative of the team at Coventry and ICare home health in the way they cared for EJ.
