1940-2024
Lorenzo, better known as “Larry”, 83, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather,
passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at his home in Riverside, California
surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 29, 1940 to Lorenzo and Helen Pendleton. He was
the middle child and oldest son of 7 children. Growing up, Larry served as an altar boy at Most Blessed
Sacrament Catholic Church where he also attended school through 8th grade. Larry loved music and
played clarinet in the school orchestra and sang in the Glee Club. After graduating from Ahrens Trade
High School in 1958 he enlisted in the Army National Guard. In late 1961, Larry moved to Chicago
where he landed a job with Ozark Airlines. The following year, he reluctantly agreed to go on a blind
date with an out-of-state co-worker at the Ozark Christmas Party. He didn’t know it at the time, but he
was about to meet the love of his life, Sandy. After dating long-distance, Larry relocated to Sandy’s
hometown of St. Louis, Missouri and soon married. In July of 1964, Larry and Sandy relocated to
Southern California where they would put down roots and raise their family.
Larry worked hard to support his family, often working more than one job. He worked for Northrop
Corporation from 1964 until his retirement in 1994. He started as a riveter in manufacturing and worked
his way into quality assurance as an inspector. This led to a management position and later he
transferred to International Programs Quality Assurance where he worked as an overseas program
administrator in South Korea.
During retirement, Larry and Sandy traveled the U.S., visiting all 50 state capitals, many with their
grandchildren. A proud American, Larry volunteered at the March Field Air Museum in Riverside,
California for over 4,700 hours as well as Meals On Wheels. Larry was a gifted writer of many poems
and songs and recently completed his autobiography. He enjoyed reading, facts and figures, watching
football and old westerns and cooking his “garbage”.
Larry was a man of great faith and was deeply devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by Sandy,
his beloved wife of nearly 59 years and by his youngest grandson, Tyler Milbourne. He is survived by
his children Rob (Ginny) Pendleton, Sherri (Troy) Chaney, and Alissa (Jim) Milbourne; his grandchildren
Michael (Nevada) Pendleton, Marisa (Travis) Barzee, Samantha (Matthew) Villanueva, Steven Pendleton,
Mackenzie Chaney and Peyton Milbourne; and his great-grandchildren: Presley, Addie, Salem, Leo and
Talitha. He is also survived by brothers Tony Pendleton, Joe (Bonita) Pendleton, sister Helen Collins and
many nieces and nephews.
