DR. JOHN B. VICKERY, Emeritus Age 87, passed away on February 7, 2013. He was born on August 20, 1925 in Toronto, Canada to his late parents, Stanley Vickery and Mona Robinson. After graduating from high school, Dr. Vickery received his Bachelor's degree in Toronto, his Master's degree in Colgate and 2 Doctorate degrees from the University of Wisconsin. Although he is officially retired, he was still very active in the department. From 1983 until his retirement in 1993, he served as Executive Vice Chancellor, Faculty Relations and Academic Support. He was the chairman of the English Department at UC Riverside. He is the author of many distinguished books and was awarded many honors throughout his career. Some of those include a post doctorate Harvard fellowship by the American Council of Learned Societies in Philosophy and the Guggenheim and American Council of Learned Societies Fellowships. Dr. Vickery is survived by his daughters, Anne E. Floto (William H.) and Elaine C. Shankar (Ashok); his grandchildren, Kimberly K. Ouellette (Andrew) and William J. Floto, Kavi Shankar and Elina Shankar; his great grandchildren, Ryan G. and Ethan J. Ouellette, along with other family, friends and colleagues. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013, 11a.m., at Acheson & Graham Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave. in Riverside. The interment will be private.
