Elvira Bernetta Garrick-Baffa was born on July 3rd, 1925 in Leavan, Utah to John and Effie Ann Garrick. Elvira was the youngest of 11 children. She lived in various cities across Utah and Nevada as a young woman, before moving to Santa Monica, California with her second husband Dewayne Barron. After his passing, she met and married her last husband Vincent Baffa in 1965. They were married for 47 years by the time he passed away in 2007. In 1987 Elvira and Vincent followed their youngest son to Fontana, California where she lived out the rest of her life.
For the majority of Elvira’s later years, she suffered from severe arthritis and Kidney Disease. On the night of Christmas Eve 2015, Elvira went into the hospital. Over the following weeks she tried to get stronger, however her body just could not recover. She lost her battle with Renal Failure on the morning of January 12th, 2016 at 5:43am as her youngest son held her hand at her bed side in the hospital. Her family promised she would not ever be alone.
Elvira by all means, did not have an easy life. Therefore, she wanted to make sure that her family members did not have to endure the same suffering. Despite her obstacles in life, Elvira always managed to be positive and strong, which is why she is the strongest and bravest woman we know. Everyone who ever met Elvira automatically loved her. She had a tremendous heart. There was no one more caring or more loving than this woman. She was kind-hearted, hilarious and had a way of making everyone feel loved and appreciated. Her family meant the world to her and she had no qualms about spoiling any one of them if she could. Elvira was selfless; she always put everyone before herself. With her passing she has left emptiness in the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. If there is anything to be learned from Elvira, it is the true meaning of unconditional love.
Elvira is survived by her 6 children, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
