Corrine J. Duke

Corrine Duke was born on March 31, 1937 in Los Angeles, California. She was the fourth child in a family of six. Corrine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Corrine grew up in Los Angeles where she attended Edison Middle School and Jefferson High School. While she did not graduate from high school, she went back to school later and earned her GED before attending classes at the local community college.

In high school Corrine could be spotted around town in her bright red Plymoth Savoy with the recognizable “She-Devil” stenciled on the side. Corrine was always there to take her sister, Merizy and friends to the beach, parties and school events. Corrine pushed Merizy to get her drivers license, though she initially resisted; she is incredibly grateful for the push. Corrine was a bright and happy spirit with a heart of gold and all who knew her felt her strength, cheer and kindness. She was charming, warm and quick witted. Corrine was always there to lend a helping hand for family and friends alike.

In the mid 60’s Corrine moved to Norco with her parents, Ed and Edna, her younger brother Bill and her boys Charlie and Jesse (Jimmy). Corrine cared for her parents up until their passing and remained in the house on Temescal until the time of her death.

Corrine started her working career at American Drill, she later worked at a mom and pop corner store. She worked at Ranchland for several years before moving on to Home Depot. She always greeted customers with a smile and enjoyed being of service.

Anyone who knew Corrine would tell you she was known for her earring collection. She was very creative and crafty. She made her own jewelry and had earrings for every occasion. She crocheted and was a wonderful seamstress. Corrine was an exceptionally talented candy maker and later became a baker. Her sweet treats are something we all remember and miss. She also liked to camp in her van and taking spontaneous overnight trips to Laughlin where she’d play bingo through the night!

In 1993 Corrine met and married the love of her life, Butch Duke. They enjoyed many camping trips in the RV, going up to Pismo Beach and Courtside were two of their favorite destinations. Corrine embraced Butch’s children Andy, Randy and Merrijane as her own. Their friends at the American Legion looked forward to the potlucks and birthday celebrations and they became like family.

The passing of Corrine has left an empty space in our lives. She will forever live in our hearts and memories.
