William Allan Webb

With a winning smile and a subtle sense of humor, William Allan Webb was a thinker, a dreamer, a theologian, a historian, a counselor and an educator. He cherished his role as husband, father, and granddad.

He was born to Thomas and Minnie Webb in Philadelphia, Mississippi on March 19, 1930 and passed away on May 16, 2023.

He attended East Central Junior College and one semester at the University of Mississippi before he was drafted to serve in the Korean War in 1951-52. After discharge he went to Mississippi College and earned a B.A. in business administration. Accepting a calling to ministry, he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he obtained a Master of Divinity degree. He was pastor at Marion Baptist Church in Marion, MS; Calvary Baptist Church in West Point, MS; and First Baptist Church in Macon, MS. After participating in a chaplaincy program at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, he changed the direction of his profession to counsel students in an educational setting. He went to Delta State University for a master’s degree in education then received an educational specialist degree from Georgia Southern University. He worked as a school counselor from 1976 until his retirement in 1996. In retirement, he spent several years volunteering at Methodist Rehab Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Helen Hatley Webb. He has two daughters from a previous marriage: Amy Head (Harold) of Madison, MS and Anna Calhoun (Cal) of Knoxville, TN. He has three grandchildren, Bryce Allan Calhoun (Erica); Ava MacKenzie Walker (Sam); both in Nashville, TN, and Molly Louise Calhoun in Knoxville, TN.

He was a member of Northminster Baptist Church.
