Bill was born in Jackson, MS on October 27, 1949 to Edith and James ‘Jocko’ McCollum. He attended Murrah High School and the University of Mississippi. Despite being born with cerebral palsy, Bill had a strong will and determination to live life to the fullest. Bill attended college, was an avid Ole Miss fan and loved to play golf. Bill made friends with everyone, brought so much joy to others and was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Bill worked as the ‘starter’ for the city of Jackson Public Golf Courses until retirement. He is survived by his brothers, Stewart McCollum (Colette), Len McCollum; two nieces, Lauren Fairburn (Matthew), Courtney Rhyne (Stephen); and three nephews, Jamie McCollum (Jessica), Marc McCollum (Katie), and Ben McCollum (Kristen). He is preceded in death by his parents, James ‘Jocko’ and Edith McCollum and sister-in-laws, Debbie McCollum and Judy McCollum.
Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s name to the Mississippi Society for Disabilities at 1675 Lakeland Drive, Suite 303, Jackson, MS 39216. A special thank you to Skipper Jernigan and Billy Van Devender and many others for their lifelong friendship and brotherhood with Bill. It means more to our family than you will ever know.
