Russell Humphrey

Russell Duke Humphrey, 88, passed away on December 10th, 2012 in Flower Mound, TX after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 14th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marks United Methodist Church on the Reservoir, 400 Grants Ferry Road, Brandon, MS with burial at 1:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, MS. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 13th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS and on Friday, December 14th, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at St Marks UMC.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Eula Whitmire Humphrey. He is survived by his wife, Jerry Craft Humphrey, son Ron Humphrey and wife Teresa of Brandon, MS; daughter Joyce H. Camp and husband Steve of Sugar Hill, GA; son Bill Humphrey and wife Sue Ann of Apple Valley, MN; daughter Beth H. Whitmore and husband Bobby of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren Jonathan Humphrey, Whitney Humphrey, Mac May, Brian May, Stephen Camp, Tracy Monacella, Kristin Holland, Brandon and Bailey Whitmore, and great grandchildren Rory and Noah Humphrey, Cali and Laney May, Maddox and Molly May, Abigail Camp, and Colton and Chase Holland.

Mr. Humphrey, a native of Mississippi, was a Sergeant in the Army, 513th Airborne Signal Company, 13th Airborne Division during WWII and was stationed in France. As a Messenger Dispatcher his proudest moment was assisting in decoding the message of the announcement of the German surrender for the General in charge of his Division. A graduate of Mississippi State University, he worked for Burroughs Corporation for 33 years until his retirement and relocation to Monroe, LA. Always the consummate salesman who loved to help his customers, he returned to work for MBF Corporation and later Kaeser & Blair.

He was always very involved with the United Methodist Church. He helped found and was a charter member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church on the Reservoir in Brandon, MS and was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church on the Bayou in Monroe, LA.
