Kathy Mae Kitchings Nowell, 69, of Madison was called to be with Jesus and her parents, Dr. Harold T. Kitchings and Ann Overstreet Kitchings on August 17, 2021. She was born in Jackson, MS April 2, 1952. She graduated from Kosciusko High School as salutatorian and from Mississippi College.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Gary H. Nowell and 3 children: Marianna Hydrick (Bronson) of Clinton, MS, Garret Hunt Nowell (Elizabeth) Columbia, MO, and Gavin William Nowell (Lacy) Brandon, MS. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: TJ Hydrick (Clinton), Caleb and Grayson Nowell (Columbia, MO), and Liam, Ceci, and Anne Wilder Nowell (Brandon, MS). Her siblings include Karen Higginbotham (Jim) Canton, MS, and Dr. Harold (Hal) T. Kitchings, Jr. (Kellie) Clearwater, FL.
Maemae, as she was known by her grandchildren, returned to Mississippi College and completed her master’s degree in Counseling and practiced 17 years at First Presbyterian Day School and The Shepherd’s Staff. She also logged 30+ years teaching high school girls and married couples in church. She published one book, ABSTINENCE: ARE YOU KIDDING, intended as a study guide for teenage girls and young adults.
Kathy impacted many lives via her strong convictions, Christ-like example, and caring heart as well as her beautiful smile. She will be missed but remains in our hearts with the confidence that she is waiting for us to join her in heaven.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August, 23, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Broadmoor Baptist Church with visitation from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
