Mrs. Hallie H. Keyes

She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for over 50 years. Services will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church, Madison, Mississippi at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010, with visitation today from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00p.m. and Friday, April 30, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.at Broadmoor Baptist Church.

Hallie was born in Charleston, Mississippi and moved to Laurel, Mississippi at two years of age, where she attended Laurel City Schools. She graduated from George S. Gardner High School in 1948, Jones Junior College in 1950 and the University of Southern Mississippi in 1952. She then moved to Jackson, Mississippi, where she taught school at Bailey Junior High School.

She was a loving wife of 57 years to Earl Keyes. She is survived by her husband, Earl and their three children, Ricky and Peter Keyes and Susan Keyes Ward and their spouses Sheila Keyes, Sue Keyes and Greg Ward. She is also survived by one sister, Frances Houston of Jacksonville, Florida; and seven grandchildren, who were the lights of her life, Marion, Krysten, Franklin, Adam and Houston Keyes and Ryan and Hallie Brett Ward.

One of Hallie's life long passions was the sport of tennis. After a long hard match with cancer, Hallie has gone on to seek a new match in Heaven. Every time cancer would go one up on her, she would come back, tie up the match. Hallie was active in the Mississippi Senior Olympics and the National Senior Olympics, where she received over a dozen gold medals. She participated on the softball team, mix doubles tennis with her husband in the National Senior Olympics held in Orlando, Florida in 1999. On top of all this, she loved her home and especially her yard. She kept a two acre yard completely manicured without any assistance and enjoyed every minute with pride and joy.

Her battle is over and now she is home and healed. She left a tremendous legacy of how to live life with love and laughter and selfless giving to all she knew.

Pallbearers for the service will be her four grandsons, Ryan Ward, Franklin Keyes, Adams Keyes and Houston Keyes and her nephews, Phillip Keyes, Jimmy Keyes, Dale Keyes, Stuart Keyes, Chris Keyes, Randy Keyes, Wayne Butler, and Larry Keyes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jackson Academy in memory of Hallie Keyes.
