Gladys Ivey Vianey, 95, of Ridgeland, MS passed away peacefully on October 26, 2022, from complications related to cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pierre Auguste (Pete) Vianey, parents Annie and Eddie Ivey, sister, Grace Andrews, and brothers-in-law, Cooper Andrews, Jimmy Bracey, and G.W. Herrington. She is survived by her son Charles (Janie) Vianey of Birmingham, AL, and daughter Beth Vianey (Hal) Fisher of Canton, MS. She also leaves four grandchildren – Kathryn Fisher, Claire Fisher (Cole) Gressett, Sarah Vianey and Chad Vianey, and sisters Christine Herrington, Joyce Bracey, and brother, Eddie Ivey, Jr.
Gladys was born in Utica, MS November 8, 1926. She graduated from Utica High School and then attended Clark Business College. She then worked as a legal secretary. After a few years Gladys met Pete Vianey, and in 1955 they married and made their home in Jackson.
Gladys was a long-time member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School and in the Women’s Missionary Union. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home and serving as a greeter at Baptist Hospital. Gladys and Pete volunteered together at the Splendors of Versailles, the Majesty of Spain, and the Palaces of St. Petersburg. Gladys loved her family passionately and was happiest when they were all together. During each season of her life, she developed lifelong friendships. She was a role model to many and lived out her faith in Jesus every day.
There will be a private family interment Saturday, October 29, 2022 followed by visitation at Broadmoor Baptist Church Chapel at 10:00 and a memorial service at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions to be made to the Mississippi Food Network (BackPack Program) at P.O. Box 411, Jackson, MS 39205-0411.
