Eugenia Maria Koury Jackson – Gina to her friends and family – passed away quietly in her sleep at her home in Kalamazoo, Michigan on June 14, 2024. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 6, 1968, she grew up in Jackson, Mississippi with her parents Opal Freeman Koury and Peter Albert Koury and her brother Joseph Michael Koury.
After attending Jackson Academy for elementary school, she went to high school at Jackson Prep where she was a proud member of the marching band Color Guard. Gina completed her education at Millsaps College, graduating with honors with a degree in elementary education. Some of her fondest memories of college involved spending time with her sisters in the Tri-Delta sorority.
After school, Gina was blessed by the two greatest joys of her life – her daughter Rebekah and her son Ryan. Although she always remained proud of her Mississippi heritage, work took her to Michigan where she would live out the rest of her life.
Taken from us far too young, Gina will be greatly missed. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Gina is survived by her children Rebekah Jackson and Ryan Jackson, her brother Joseph Michael Koury, step-mother Miriam Koury, step-siblings Jennifer Hurless and Richard Johnson, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by her many friends including her fiancé Kevin Coleman. Predeceasing Gina were her mother Opal Freeman Koury and her father Peter Albert Koury.
Gina will be laid to rest at a graveside service in Mississippi by her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that memorial donations be made to Catholic Charities of Jackson.
