Edward Allen Scott, 65, of Ridgeland, MS, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on February 12, 2022. He was born on March 22, 1956, in Chunju, South Korea, to Jack Brown and Eleanor Caslick Scott, who were missionaries in Korea at the time. He married Charlotte Pearl Anderson of Jackson, MS, in 1980 and remained faithfully married to her until his death.
Ed graduated from Clinton High School in 1974 and later from Mississippi State University in 1978 with a degree in Poultry Science. He immediately took a job with Cal-Maine Foods, headquartered in Jackson, and worked for that company in a variety of capacities ranging from Plant Manager to Director of Corporate Recruiting. During their married life, they lived in Houston and Lubbock, TX, before returning to the Jackson area in 1993. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Jackson, Ed served as a Deacon, worked with children in mission education, served on the International Missions committee, served as a Boy Scout leader for countless young men, and was an active member of various Sunday School groups throughout his life.
Ed devoted much of his life to the raising of his sons, volunteering with the Boy Scouts to help them both make Eagle Scout, and spending many hours helping them pursue their love of sports. Ed loved travelling with his family, both immediate and extended, and remembrances of those trips will certainly be among the most vivid memories of our beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle. He made one of his last great family trips to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2021 to see his alma mater win its first national championship in any sport, and he supported Bulldog athletics in ways that made a positive impact on many people. Ed brightened every room with his humor and good spirit, and he brought encouragement to all who needed it. He served as a profound role model for family, for friends, and for his co-workers in his commitment to them and to his Savior.
Proverbs 10:7 says, “The memory of the righteous is a blessing.” Memories of Ed will be a blessing for generations to come. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Ridgeland, their children, Blake Alexander Scott of Madison, and Austin Brown and Madi McNair Scott of Madison, his sisters Ann Wiley Scott, of Ridgeland, Caroline Brown Scott of Chattanooga, TN, his brother and sister-in-law John Thomas and Holly Roub Scott of Macon, GA, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Dyan Anderson, of Dallas, TX, nephews William Roub Scott, of New York, NY, Mark Edward Scott, of Jacksonville, FL, and Andrew Thomas Scott, of Dallas, TX, and his nieces Alexine Cryer, of Celina, TX, Heather Hengesteg, of Tomball, TX, Antigone Davoulas Zorbino, of Lookout Mountain, GA, and Katherine Elizabeth Scott, of Brooklyn, NY, as well as numerous cousins and other relatives on both sides of the family. Although Ed never served in the Marines, as much as anyone he exemplified their motto, Semper Fidelis, “Always faithful.”
Memorials may be given to Global Maritime Ministry of New Orleans at portministry.com/give or to the Mississippi Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Alumni Board in care of the Bulldog Fund: PO Box 6196 Mississippi State, MS 39762.
