Barbara was born in Selma, Louisiana September 9, 1932 to Emmett H. Morrow and Martha (Mattie) Francis Morrow of Pollack, Louisiana. She graduated from Pollack High School and attended Spence College of Business in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After college she went to work at Fort Polk Army Base. There she met Johnny B. Stringer, the love of her life.
After leaving the Army, they moved to Jackson, Mississippi. She and Johnny were blessed with three precious daughters, Belinda Gordon (Douglas), Sheri Gordon (Chuck), and Tanya Mills (Tommy). They were given five wonderful grandsons, Wesley Gordon (Meaghan), Nicholas Gordon (Mary Todd), Winston Gordon, Cooper Gordon (Lexi), and Tyler Towers. Also, nine great grandchildren, Mary Reeves Gordon, Murphy Gordon, Max Gordon, Mamie Gordon, Foster Gordon, Ann Harvey Gordon, Jack Gordon, Walker Gordon and Russ Gordon.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 5 brothers, Evie, Carl, Joseph, Charles, and Dee Emmett Morrow. Also, 2 sisters, Ora Edwards and Moease Beason. She has 20 nieces and nephews, and a large number of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Barbara retired from the Mississippi State Department of Health. She was truly blessed with countless numbers of friends.
One of the joys of her life was teaching Sunday school at Pleasant Hills Baptist Church, Pollack, Louisiana; Hillcrest Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi; First Baptist Church of Madison, Mississippi and Forest Hills Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee. And she thoroughly enjoyed gardening in her yard. But her number one joy was her husband and children.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Parkway Funeral Home, Ridgeland, Mississippi. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at Parkway Funeral Home, Ridgeland, Mississippi. Barbara will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park South in Jackson, Mississippi.
