ANDERSON, Warren Kingman "Andy," age 96, passed away on May 11, 2018. He was born November 1, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave and Bess Anderson; his wife of 57 years, Ann Anderson; brothers, Wilbur and Donald Anderson. He is survived by his sister, Janice Carson of DeKalb, Ill.; daughter, Cheryl Law (Dana) of Manakin-Sabot, Va.; granddaughters, Christine Schaffer (Ken) of Corona, Calif. and Elizabeth Thomas (Sean) and great-grandchildren, Lawson and Holloway Thomas of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
After briefly attending The University of Iowa, he moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the government. In 1942, he joined the Army Air Corps and served in Northern Africa and Italy during WWII. He was very proud of his service and at age 90, made a wall map showing and describing points of departure and places he was stationed. This will be treasured by his family.
After the war, he returned to Washington and worked at the Pentagon as a Statistical Analyst for the Under Secretary of the Navy. He retired with 33 years of government service. In 1991, he and his wife moved to Richmond to be near their grandchildren.
After his wife's death in 2003, he and Millie Taylor were best friends for 14 years. Andy's thoughtfulness, kindness, and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave., Friday, June 1, 2018, at 11:15 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to "The Trinity Foundation," and mailed to Trinity UMC, 903 Forest Ave., Henrico, Va. 23229 or At Home Health Care Hospice, 2922 W.
