Dr. Thomas Mason Harris, Emeritus Professor of Anatomy at MCV/VCU, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed into the arms of his Father on July 2, 2021. He was 93 years old. This precious gift of life is only afforded to us once. Yet even after we are gone, so much of us lives on in those we have loved, taught, helped, and encouraged. The choices we make live longer than we do. The love we share becomes future generations, and stories to be told when we gather and find joy in remembrance. We celebrate and praise God for the life of Tom Harris, and the legacy of faith and love that he planted and cultivated in so many. He and his lifelong sweetheart, Willie, laid the solid foundation of their family based on these principles. Their family stands strong and close-knit because of that cornerstone. He was a lover of knowledge, and instilled in his family a sense of wonder and inquisitiveness. He was a beach lover, and cherished the grandeur of the waves and shoreline. He gave us many memories, splashing in the water with those he held dear. Papaw/Poppy/Dad/Big Buck/Daddy-O-Dad/Tommy/Uncle Tommy….. We are so blessed to have loved and been loved by you. We cherish our memories of each visit, each conversation, and each hug. Your family and friends all love you beyond measure. So, while we mourn your loss on this side of heaven, we know that you will be waiting for us on the other side with your beloved Willie. You await us in the presence of your Father whom you served faithfully. We celebrate the legacy that is yours. We see you and Willie reflected in the beautiful faces and hearts of those who love you. Rest easy in joy and peace. Until we meet again. Dr. Harris’s family and close friends will lay him to rest at Westhampton Memorial Park following a private service.
