Suzanne Kay Parker, 67, went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2015 after a courageous four year battle with cancer. Born on July 24, 1947 in Cortland, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Newton and Helene Parker and beloved sister of Carol Thomas, Jane Morris (Jim), Newton Jr and Stephen. Cherished Aunt to 10 nieces and nephews, Special “Aunt Suzy” to 19 great-nieces and nephews and dear friend to many. A graduate of Homer High School in Homer, N.Y., Suzy went on to earn a degree at Murray State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from George Peabody College for Teachers. She worked with the visually impaired in Chicago before moving to Richmond where she was a teacher at Tuckahoe Middle School and Holladay Elementary School for over 30 years. Children have always had a special place in her heart.
Suzy worked closely with several charitable organizations, including Vessels of Mercy International and Widow’s Mite Experience helping to serve the under-privileged.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 19 from 2-4pm and Monday, April 20 from 10-11am followed by a celebration of life at 11am at the Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd, Richmond. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Richmond.
