Bobbie was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Davis, Sr.; his mother, Elizabeth Katherine Wenenger Davis; and his wife of 47 years, Shirley Ann Gilham Davis. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah G. Pennell and her husband Johnnie as well as his granddaughter, Jennifer P. Witherspoon and her husband Wayne.
Bobbie was proud to have served in the Korean War during 1952 and 1953 and enjoyed sharing war stories with family and friends. He was a Volunteer Fireman with Station 3 in Highland Springs, Virginia during the 1950’s. However, what he was most proud of was his 41-year career as a Senior Engineering Technician for VEPCO (Dominion Energy). One of his favorite hobbies, up until his death, was driving around town looking at Dominion Energy substations and explaining how they worked. He enjoyed his 90th birthday touring his first office on Grayland Avenue in Richmond, VA, showing where his desk was and learning from present employees about how business is conducted today and reminiscing about how it was done in the past.
Bobbie was also a member of The American Legion, Post 144 in Highland Springs, Virginia. He was an extremely hard worker. Even at 94 years old, he still cut his grass numerous times a week, did his own painting and carpentry, and was obsessed with raking his driveway to keep the gravel “just right”. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Burial to follow at Washington Memorial Park.
