Robert Edward Bennett

Robert (Bobby) Edward Bennett departed his earthly life on March 24, 2023 at the age of 76 after an extended illness. Born in Pinehurst, NC on December 14, 1946, he grew up in Richmond, VA and attended George Wythe High School. He began working for the US Postal Service in Richmond and later moved to Danville, VA where he continued his career with the Postal Service until he retired in 2007. During his many years of service, he was inducted into the USPS Million Mile Club, a select group of drivers that have the distinction of driving over one million miles without a single preventable incident. He served as the president of Branch 595 of the National Association of Letter Carriers for 8 years. He spent many of his retirement years in Murrells Inlet, SC where he enjoyed golfing on the many golf courses in that area. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Lyle Bennett and Ernestine Ray Bennett, as well as his sister, Phyllis Bennett Fadool. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Floyd Bennett, and two sons, Jeffrey Robert Bennett (wife Keely) and Andrew James Bennett (wife Jessica), and three grandchildren, Margaret Rose, June Frances, and Thomas Robert. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Ray Bennett (wife Mimi) and several nieces and nephews. In addition to golf, Bobby was an avid sports fan with special interest in baseball (Boston Red Sox) and professional football (Carolina Panthers). He took great pleasure in playing in the Bennett Family fantasy football league and will be fondly remembered as ‘Elder Beachbum’! His remains rest at Woody Funeral Home- Parham in Richmond. A Christian Service of Death and Interment will be held at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238 on March 30, 2023 at 12 o’clock.
