Our mother, Mary R Posta was laid to rest on November 24, 2020, at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, Glen Allen VA. She was 90 years old. She died from complications stemming from a recent stroke, while also suffering from aortic stenosis. After a brief stay at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, she died peacefully at her home in Henrico on November 15, 2020. She was under hospice care.
Mary was born on October 30, 1930, in Harrison, Arkansas to Zoll Albert and Euna Jane Pulliam. She was a good student, excelling in bookkeeping. She attended Central Arkansas University and later worked for a local bank in Jonesboro, AR. Never afraid of the unknown, Mary left Arkansas at 21 to accept a secretarial position with the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. One year later, she met her future husband, Michael J. Posta, Jr. of New Bern, NC. They were married on September 27th, 1952.
Their adventure began, as Michael and Mary traveled up and down the east coast for nearly 30 years, as he served with the US Public Health Service. Their assignments were as far north as Boston, MA, and as far south as Miami, FL. It was during this time that they raised their three children, Michael J. Posta III, currently of Chesapeake, VA, Elizabeth A. Posta (McDonald) of Springfield, VA, and Cynthia L Posta of Henrico.
As the children got older, Mary returned to the workforce, spending many years in management with First Federal Savings & Loan of Arlington in Fairfax, VA. She later turned her attention to real estate as she became a Special Assistant to the Broker for Merrill Lynch Real Estate, and then worked at Long & Foster Real Estate.
Michael and Mary retired and moved to the Richmond area in 1997. After a long illness, Michael died in February of 1998. They shared over 45 years of marriage.
Up until the last several years of her life, Mary remained very active with several senior adult groups, enjoyed volunteering with IVNA (Instructive Visiting Nurses Association) during the flu shot drive, and made many dear friends in the Widowed Persons Support Group and St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Some of her hobbies included flower arranging, gardening and shopping.
In addition to her three children, Michael (Debbie), Elizabeth (Bill), and Cynthia, Mary is survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Thank you, Mom! Rest in peace!
