June Motley Jarrett enjoyed a long life filled to overflowing with friends and family. For June, a friend is forever. And family is a treasure. And a dog….well, June never met a dog that didn’t melt her heart. June loved us all. And we loved her. For June it was that simple. Love and be loved. Whether by birth or by introduction, we all became family to June Motley Jarrett.
June passed away quietly on Saturday, February 17, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bowie and Essie Motley, and her five brothers and sisters (Bessie, Lewis, Scott, Everett and Ann) as well as her devoted husband, Hoyt (Jerry) Jarrett.
For many years, June worked in downtown Richmond – first at the Virginia Employment Commission before a career in the Office of the Attorney General from which she retired in 1991. While proud of her work accomplishments, June cherished her leading role as mother and grandmother. She became known as “Iya” and embraced the bestowed nickname as a royal title. To the friends and family who survive her, Iya will be remembered as a royal gift. Among the survivors are her two children: Janet Jarrett Tyler (John), of Richmond, Virginia, and Michael Hoyt Jarrett (Lori), of Dixon, Illinois and, most importantly to Iya, her five grandchildren: Kate Tyler Sweeney (Coleman), Gray Tyler (Victoria Quilter), Ned Jarrett Tyler (Katie), Cal Jarrett, and Elle Jarrett.
A celebration of June “Iya” Jarrett’s life and love will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church. A reception in the church Receiving Hall will follow the service – please join family and friends for this gathering of remembrance and love. June would want you to choose something bright and cheerful to wear for this occasion. Parking for the church is street parking and June would also want you to be reminded to allow time to find parking.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be gratefully accepted in June’s name at Central United Methodist Church (1211 Porter Street Richmond, VA 23224) or the Richmond Animal League (11401 International Drive Chester, VA 23236).
