AUX SOINS DE
Woody Funeral Home-Parham
John Curtis Boyd, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Clifton Boyd, Jr. and his mother, Emily Boyd Sharp. He is survived by his beloved sons, Davis Clifton Boyd (Mackenzie) and Carson Lange Boyd, and their mother, Anne Boyd; his brothers, C. Scott Boyd (Donna) and Robert Franklin Boyd; his nephew, Christopher Scott Boyd (Brittani); his niece, Stacy Maxwell Boyd; and his life partner, Sheridan Van Gieson Reese and her children, Richard Warren Reese, III and Lauren Parker Reese (Scott).
Curtis was born on December 4,1963 in Richmond, Virginia. A member of the class of 1982 of Douglas Southall Freeman High School and Virginia Tech’s class of 1986, Curtis knew everything there was to know about both Richmond and Blacksburg, and was a loyal friend and reliable troublemaker (lovingly referred to as “the silent instigator”) to all who crossed his path. His sons, Davis and Carson, later followed in his footsteps to become Virginia Tech alumni, joining a family of proud Hokies, including Curtis’ brothers, Scott and Robert.
He was passionate about sports, particularly football, golf, skiing, and baseball (including playing in the 1976 Little League World Series). He was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings from a young age, “because he loved snow and the color purple.” Curtis certainly lived life in color, and attended hundreds of rock music concerts and festivals, meeting people from all over who shared his love for Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and, most importantly, the Grateful Dead.
He loved the outdoors and traveled all over with family–from countless trips to “The Pond” in Deltaville, ski trips to Breckenridge, Whistler, Steamboat, and Snowshoe, and boat trips around the British Virgin Islands. He most enjoyed spending time in Urbanna, Virginia with his family and dogs, taking trips out on the boat, drinking bourbon, eating seafood, and filling the house with friends, laughter, and music.
Curtis fought a courageous, nearly decade-long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), and was a pillar of strength, determination, and living life to the fullest until the very end. A celebration of life will be held for friends and family on February 19, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either: CurePSP at 1216 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001 or online at psp.org/iwanttohelp/ways-to-give/.
