Herman Augustus Tate

Herman A. Tate, 86, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. He was born in Elberton, Georgia to the late Henry and Mattie Tate. Herman was the youngest of 14 children, 11 brothers and two sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by four of his children, Herman Jr., Marvin, Gregory, and Mildredann; as well as his girlfriend, Parmell Aiken. Herman retired as a school teacher with Douglas G. Grafflin Elementary School in Chappaqua, New York. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Pamalyn “Say-Say” Tate, Ronald Adams, Lisa, Gloria, and Shawn; 16 grandchildren, with his favorite being Supreme Richardson, who helped care for Herman; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two daughters-in-law, Jennifer Tate and Debbie Adams; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Tate and Virginia Aiken; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
