Blanton Ellwood Tate Jr. (Butch), of Richmond, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. Marys Hospital Hospice in RIchmond, VA surrounded by his loving wife, Ann and his special sister-in-law, Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his parents Blanton E. Tate Sr. and Hilda Dagliano Tate. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Ann, a special great nephew, Coltin, his best friend, George Ellis Redford IV and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Butch graduated from Douglas Freeman High School and then attended San Jose State University in California. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army. Butch lived his life to the fullest, he loved the ocean, taking his boat out fishing and golfing.
Butch was no ordinary man, he was a devoted son, an amazing brother-in-law and a wonderful and loving husband. He was the perfect example of a dedicated friend, he was truly one of a kind with a heart of gold. He never complained and was blessed and thankful for everyday. He was the true meaning of patience, kindness and love. If you were ever privileged to meet him you knew he was one of a kind. To know him was to know love, true love.
The family is grateful for the hospice nurses at St. Marys Hospital and for the love and support of all the friends and family that have prayed for us.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. A private burial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Richmond, VA. Butch had a special place in his heart for St. Judes and the family asks that in lieu of flowers to please donate to St. Judes in his memory.
