Deborah Ann's Story
“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an
Afterglow of smiles when life is done…”
Deborah Ann Smith was born on April 9, 1960 to Cleophus and Cloe Smith in the city of Martinez, CA.
She grew up in Richmond, CA. Her formal education started in the Richmond Unified School District at Coronado Elementary School; but she was, transferred, into the El Cerrito Unified School District where she attended Portola Middle School and graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1978.
“I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.”
Deborah was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, wife and a good friend. She had a beautiful spirit and although out-spoken she was humbled and respectful, to those who came in contact, with her. Truly, Deborah was a “Queen” and a precious jewel to her family and friends.
Her favorite pastimes included listening to great music like Old School and R&B, working with puzzles, sewing and gatherings with family and friends, too.
On September 12, 2024, Deborah’s battle with cancer ended. She was preceded in death by her father, Cleophus Smith; and two sisters, Linda and Teresa.
Deborah leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Bennie Warfield Sr.; her mother, Cleo Smith; four children, Sherrell Osby, Bennie Warfield Jr., Christine Warfield, and Kevin Warfield; ten grandchildren, Shania Turner, Davionne Simmons, Jahbar Osby, Zaire Warfield, Zaniyah Warfield, Nariyah Stephenson, Messiah Stephenson, Thamian Warfield, Keandre Warfield, Karter Warfield; two great-grandchildren, Samiyah Blasher and Starr’Lynni Austin; two sisters, Sheila and Sonya Smith; two brothers, Cleophus Smith Jr. and Jeffrey Smith; several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friend’s.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories
that I leave behind when life is done.
