STANLEY GRANT, JR.
(Sunrise: May 19, 1947 to Sunset: March 18, 2018)
Stanley was the oldest of six children born to Stanley Sr and Dorothy Grant, both parents and three siblings: Douglas (Mike) Grant Sr, Robin Grant, and Rodney Grant, preceded him in death.
Stanley was a proud member of the White Rock community of Dallas which was filled with lots of family (on both sides) and lifelong friends. Stanley loved to tell anyone who’d listen of the love, fun and adventures he experienced growing up in White Rock. He joined St. Paul AME Methodist Church White Rock at an early age and taught Sunday school in his youth.
Stanley attended Anderson Bonner Elementary and when the Hamilton Park neighborhood was built he attended the Hamilton Park School for Junior High and High school. He then went to the University of North Texas where he graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts. He belonged to several art groups and loved to draw and paint. He was a great artist and gave away most of his paintings. His favorite pastimes were art, fishing, gardening and conversation.
Stanley was a District Manager for Frito Lay and then Belo Corp where he worked in the Dallas Morning News Division until retirement.
Stanley was a wonderful husband, father, brother and respected friend. He was very generous to everyone and would give you the shirt off his back. He also loved to remodel rooms at home and would help anyone in need of remodeling and repairs. He could take a room and make it bigger and better than it ever was.
Due to illness and family he moved to the Seattle area and enjoyed coming back to Dallas to visit whenever he could.
He loved Dallas and White Rock Community so it's only fitting that his final resting place be back home near White Rock Dallas.
Stanley leaves to cherish his memories: His wife Pat Grant; Children: Angela Grant, Stanley Grant III (Ada) and Andre Grant; Grandchildren: John McCain, Alexa Mitchell, Stanley Grant IV, Ella Grant and Adrian Grant; His Sisters: Wanda Ashford (Chris (deceased)), and Debra Cephus (Mike); Sisters and Brothers-in-laws (whom he regarded as his siblings too): Essie Terry (Leon), Leodis Smith Jr.(Sadalia), and Phyllis McFarland (Charles).
He also leaves his special lifelong friends: Donnie Gray (Patricia) and Faddie Tillman (Beverly) whom he admired and valued greatly. He appreciated that his cousin, Carolyn Grant Thornton, generously gave of her time to come help out and keep him company anytime he needed her (he called her his babysitter). He also leaves behind Aunts: Julia Alexander, Hazel Fields (both of Dallas), Jean Howard (Cincinnati, OH.), and Valeria Gray (Eatonton, GA.); Uncles: Kenneth Jack Grant, Neal Piggins, Daniel Piggins (all of Dallas) and a host of loving Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
STANLEY FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, KEPT HIS FAITH AND FINISHED HIS RACE
THE LONG DAY IS OVER
