Mary Louise Kicinski

She was the beloved wife of Stephen E. Kicinski for 67 years.

Born in Binghamton, NY, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Mary and Thomas Palenik. Mary Lou excelled in everything she did. She did exceptional at Johnson City High School and received her Nursing diploma at Wilson Memorial Hospital. She loved being a nurse. She and her blind date sweetheart Steve married and moved to Michigan where Steve obtained his Engineering degrees and Mary Lou worked as an RN. After Steve’s graduation, they lived in Washington, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Rhode Island and enjoyed retirement in Salisbury, North Carolina.

People that knew Mary Lou will remember her love of quilting, knitting, and sewing. In her later years, she was especially known for her handmade socks. She was so gifted in all crafts including tatting, smocking, furniture upholstery, and furniture caning. She enjoyed teaching others and sharing her talents during swim lessons, Girl Scouts, and getting together with friends to quilt and knit. She loved music; singing in the church choir, playing the piano, dancing, and attending concerts. She loved serving the Lord as an active parishioner and a Stephen Minister. For many years she hosted Christmas Caroling at her home for 50+ people singing to the elderly in the neighborhood. She was a talented cook and baker, teaching her children how to make Slovak dishes and pastries to pass down to the next generations. She also loved animals, especially her Boston terriers.

Mary Lou would eventually go back to school and obtain her Nursing Home Administrator’s license. She was the Administrator at Watch Hill Manor and opened the Westerly Health Center which she was particularly proud of.

Mary Lou will be sadly missed by her husband, Steve, sister Kathy (Murph), uncle, nephews and nieces, and children, Steve Kicinski (Joanne) of Washington, Kathy McDermott (Bob) of Texas, Mike Kicinski (Cathy) of New York, Mary Trost (Joe) of Pennsylvania and Carolyn McTish (Dave) of Pennsylvania. She was blessed to be a grandmother of 26 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 15 great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on December 2nd at St.Rita’s Catholic Church 12521 Inwood Road in Dallas, Texas. Interment will follow at the DFW National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
