Donald William Bean, known as "Donnie" to his family, passed away on November 11, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on January 13, 1947, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to his parents, Dorothy Nowicki Bean and William Joseph Bean.
Don earned his Bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Bridgeport where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Alpha fraternity. He also attended Yale University where he earned his Master's degree in Taxation. Don went on to serve in the United States Army Reserves for 7 years and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had a successful career as a Federal Employee with the IRS for over 40 years. Don was the proud recipient of the President's Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service, which is the highest award to honor a civil servant employee.
Always one to be active in his community and an advocate for political involvement. Don was the Precinct Chairman of the Dallas Democratic Party and a Deputy Voter Registrar. His myriad of interests and talents also led him to become an active member of MENSA, the Mayflower Society, the York Rite Dallas Bodies Council and Comandries, the 32nd Degree Masons, and a Past Master of Roy Stanley Lodge #367. Don was on the Board of the Buffalo Ensemble Theatre and the Buffalo Wargaming group of the VSS Sullivan.
He also served as Treasurer of the North College Park Neighborhood Association in Richardson.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Victoria Bean; children, Jason Bean (Elisabeth), Jason Henry (Heather), Braxton Henry (Deb), and Melinda Griffin (Brian); grandchildren, Hannah Bean, John Bean, Ty Henry, Hana Bell, and Ava Bell; Happy and Dagny Beaumont; sisters, Katherine Bean Sabia, Elizabeth Bean Torreso, Ellen Bean; several nieces and nephews, his grand-nieces and nephew, and many cousins.
A Celebration of Life honoring Don will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the chapel at Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson, Texas.
