Anna Belle Schaper Swygert died Tuesday, February 22, 2011, in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Galveston, Texas on February 21, 1926, to loving parents, August and Elizabeth Schaper, the eighth of 13 children. She married The Reverend Thomas Hodnett Swygert, Sr. on February 2, 1951 in Galveston where Thomas was serving as pastor of First Lutheran. Throughout her life, Anna Belle was active in the church, organizations and clubs. Anna Belle was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother, granny, sister, aunt, and friend. She brought great joy and laughter to those who knew her. Leaving Galveston in 1951, Anna Belle lived in College Station, Brenham, San Antonio, Dallas, and Richardson with her family.
Anna Belle was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and parents; sisters – Helen Walker, Ethel Mae Schaper, and Mabel Schulze; brothers “A.C.”, Harold, Louis, “Robbie”, Victor, and “Buck”. She is survived by son, Dr. Thomas H. Swygert, Jr. and wife Lynn; daughters – Sarah Swygert Schwarze, and Rebecca Swygert Hobbs and her husband, Charles; grandchildren – Kathryn Dempsey and husband Todd, Kristina and Jonathan Swygert, Alexander Schwarze, and Stephen Swygert Ford; sister Catherine Siefkes, brothers – Ray Schaper and Rusty Schaper and many other loving relatives.
Services will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Richardson at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 25. Internment will be at Galveston Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 26. All who knew and loved her will dearly miss Anna Belle.
