Oscar D. Hickerson Jr.

Oscar was born in Boise, Idaho, September 7, 1918, a son of Oscar Hickerson and Mattie (Dabbs) Hickerson. He attended school, met his wife, Jenell, and was married March 16, 1937 in Boise, Idaho.

He worked at North American Aviation, Western Airlines, and the Idaho Air National Guard as crew chief on the A-26, C-47, AT-6 and P-51’s. He lived in Renton for sixty-four years.

He worked as an inspector, supervisor, superintendent, source quality representative, investigator & administrator in final assembly for Boeing for 32 years until his retirement in 1981.

He was active in the Renton Church of the Nazarene for over sixty years. He and his wife set up a scholarship fund for students at Northwest Nazarene University.

He enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling, hunting, boating, walking the mall, telling stories, and being with his family.

In 1988 he went around the World on Friendship One (a Boeing 747SP) that circled the globe in 36 hours, 54 minutes and 15 seconds, beating the old record by more than eight hours.

After retirement, he and his wife built a log cabin on their 220 acre ponderosa overlooking beautiful Lake Chelan. They cut the trees, peeled the logs and constructed the cabin from trees on the property.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jenell, of 68 years in 2005; daughter, Phyllis L. Baker in 1993. He is survived by a son, Lloyd Lee Hickerson of Port Angeles, Washington; three daughters, Donna Dee Weaver of Bonney Lake, Washington; Shirley Anne Arthalony of Renton, Washington and Carol Jenell Tanner of Moraga, California; a brother Charlie Hickerson of Boise, Idaho; a sister Lucille Eason of Boise, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
