Clemment Arthur Martin

Clemment Arthur Martin, known affectionately as Clem, passed away on July 22, 2024, in Renton, Washington, at the age of 89. Clem led a life marked by devotion to his family, a passion for his work, and a dedication to his community.

Clem was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on January 16, 1935, to Arthur and Marguerite Martin. When he was 18 months old, the Arthur Martin family moved from Tennessee to Yakima, later moving to Mount Vernon where the family settled. The majority of that property is still owned by family to this day.

Clem attended the Clear Lake Adventist school his elementary and middle school years. Then attended Sedro Woolley Highschool, later transferring to Auburn Adventist Academy. Clem graduated from Auburn Adventist Academy before completing an apprenticeship program with Seattle City Light. His career was notably distinguished at Unico Properties in Seattle, where he worked for 42 years. He maintained the electrical work in numerous historical high-rise buildings. He was also instrumental in designing and constructing the iconic Macy’s Christmas Star. He brought immense pride and craftsmanship to his work, leaving a lasting impact on the Seattle skyline.

A man of faith, Clem was a long-standing member of the Renton Seventh-day Adventist Church. His commitment to his church extended beyond regular attendance; he was actively involved in various church activities and significantly contributed to the construction, remodel and maintenance of the building.

Clem was a man of many interests, including motorcycle riding, birdwatching, gardening, boating, waterskiing, and camping. When not outdoors, you would find him at his puzzle board or working on one of his collections. He was a collector of puzzles, stamps, coins, and Texaco memorabilia, to name a few. Each interest or hobby was pursued with enthusiasm and served as a way for him to connect with nature and his loved ones.

Clem is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Emma Jane Martin, his daughters Anne Jensen (Roy), Becky Beckfield (Steve), and Darla Smith (Greg), and “adopted” daughter Nichole Huntziker (Chris), along with ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marguerite Martin; his sister, Wreatha Meadows; and his granddaughter, Stephanie Greiner.

A service to honor Clem’s life will be held at the Renton Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 1031 Monroe Avenue NE, Renton, WA 98056 on August 31, 2024, at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Renton Seventh-day Adventist Church for the Fellowship Hall Remodel in memory of Clem Martin.

The family has entrusted arrangements to Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Renton, Washington, ensuring that Clem’s final farewell is handled with respect and care. Clem’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and community involvement will be remembered by all who knew him.
