It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Hickey (nee Sigmeth). Our beloved mother, grandma, gram gram, sister, aunt, and friend. She unexpectedly left this world on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the age of 67 years.
Shirley was born in Regina, SK on April 13, 1955. She is predeceased by her parents Rudy and Emma Sigmeth; husband Dale Hickey; in-laws Laurence and Ethel Hickey; niece Angie Dupperon; brothers-in-law Al Dupperon and Merle Hickey.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Michelle (Ashley), grandkids Marek, London and Presley; son Trevor; grandsons Tristan and Preston; daughter Lisa (Jared); grandkids Rudy and Myla; son Jordan (Candice); grandson Boston; sister Vi Dupperon and great-nephew Will Dupperon; brother Lloyd Sigmeth, as well as numerous friends and family.
She loved her family, grandkids and her community. Shirley had the love of sports where you would hear her cheering loud and proud! She held season tickets to the Roughriders for many years and the World Juniors were always playing in the background at Christmas time.
Grandma’s house was the hub of the family. Whether it was a holiday or a weekend, there was always a full house. She loved her grandkids fiercely; where grandma’s was their second home. She always looked forward to the annual camping trip “Hickeyfest” where a week went by too quickly and she was giving out $5.00 bills every day to every grandkid.
She was caring and compassionate to people and animals. Shirley enjoyed wild adventures with her girlfriends, whether it was driving across the province for lunch or Halloween shenanigans.
Shirley grew up in Bethune, SK and married Dale Hickey in 1979. They farmed together until Dale’s passing in 2014. She continued to farming with her son’s, Jordan and Trevor, until her passing. Shirley drove the school bus for 25 years and recently worked for Canada Post. Volunteering was a big part of her life. Shirley sat on many boards and was a lifelong member of the Bethune Lions Club and TOPS.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the K + S Community Hall, 524 East St, Bethune, SK on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, feel free to bring a bag of cat food for her many farm cats or you may make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
