BENSON, Sherril Gaylene (nee Schulz) born April 29, 1947 in Regina, SK, to Roy and Garna (nee Duke) Schulz. It is with heartfelt sadness that her family announce her passing after a battle of cancer with faith and courage.
She passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024 at 8:07 PM in palliative care with family members nearby.
She is survived by her husband Tyler; daughter Tyra “Ty”; granddaughters Sheena (Chad) and Alanda (Gabriel) Mordasiewicz; three great grandchildren Zackery, Aniela and Gabriela; sisters Valerie Kew, Terria (Rick) Pearce and Garva (Glen) Gottfried; brother Daniel Schulz; sister-in-law May Pat Wiley; brothers-in-laws Sandy (Mara) and Barry (Sharon) Benson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Roy and Garna Schulz; great niece Vanessa Gottfried; father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Merle Wiley; sisters-in-law Francis Schulz and Morna Taylor; brothers-in-law Barry Kew, John Wiley and Dan Wiley.
She was the oldest of five siblings and spent her childhood on a farm and attended country schools during elementary grades, then high-school in Regina. After completing high-school, she worked for the Provincial Government and then took a train to Prince George, B.C. to join Tyler. There she worked for the Federal Government and returned to Regina with Tyler where they married and settled. On November 17, 1970, a daughter Tyra Jayne “Ty” was born to them. Her working career was spent in the private sector for 10 years and 30 years in the Provincial/Federal Government. She spent many years in mission work and church service which were dear to her heart. Also spending time camping and traveling with her family, cooking, working in her home and gardening were times she cherished.
On July 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM, a celebration of Sherril’s life will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home on 2080 Victoria Avenue East in Regina.
Pastors Raymond and Jacqueline Jordon will be officiating and the interment will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery on 815 Assiniboine Avenue East.
