It is with falling tears and breaking hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Phil at the age of 69 on Thursday April 2, 2015. Phil passed away in the palliative care unit of the Pasqua Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Phil was predeceased by his parents Florence and Norman McPherson (1989), and his beloved dog Shadow (2010). Phil is survived by his brothers: Allan McPherson (Marieanne), Leonard McPherson (Jean), and Percy Purvis; His sisters: Maria Gabel and Shirley Steel; Nieces and Nephews Jacki, Jamie, Marci, Scott, Morgan, Alex and 2 great nieces: The special lady of his life Eldene, son Josh and Myriah; Granddaughter Cortney; beloved dog Max; best friend and coworker Dean Elles, his wife Nikki and their kids (Miss Molly and Bronson); and all of his coworkers at Evraz Place as well as many friends. Phil was born in Erickson, MB on October 3, 1945. He grew up on his family farm, southwest of Clanwilliam, MB. Farm life in the 50's and 60's was quite time consuming and meant lots of chores and hard work for him and his brothers Allan and Leonard. From a young age Phil had a passion for motors and vehicles, and this would lead him to become a mechanic. He continued to farm with his brother Allan for many years. Phil had a great love for sports: Auto racing at first, but grew a liking for fastball and hockey. He played fastball with the Clanwilliam Grey's for 12 years. The team would win one provincial title and in 2013 the team was inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame. In 1983 Phil moved west and ending up in Regina, SK, where he would work for 30 years for Evraz Place. Phil was the quiet, well known, Zamboni driver. He was a mentor for many people and all who had the privilege of knowing or working with him would agree. The family will be forever grateful for the amazing staff at the Palliative Care Unit for their professionalism and kindness during Phil's last days. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Philip McPherson can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 1A5.
