Lucy Ann Cobb

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lucy Cobb announce her passing on January 5, 2021 with her whole family (in person and virtually) by her side after a long, inspirational battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), lung cancer and brain cancer. Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Pauline Shwaykowski; and her in-laws, Earl and Ivy Cobb. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 52 years, Brian; daughter Tamara (Darryl); and grandson Nathan Pisio; her son Tyler Cobb (Julienne Morissette); and her sister Sylvia (Clinton) Nash. Lucy is also survived by her sister-in-law Bonnie (Art) Hart; nephews Bryce Hart (Meagan Urquhart) and Jared Hart; brother-in-law Grant (Alicia) Cobb; nieces Madison and Chloe Cobb, Deb Beyko (Grant Crosbie), Pam (Ron) Martin, Stephanie (Brad) Kehler, and Sherry (Jason) Frost and all their children; and her brother Ernie (Bernice) Shwaykowski; and numerous cousins and many, many friends. Lucy Shwaykowski was born on September 25th, 1948 in Dauphin, MB and was raised on a farm near Shortdale, MB. She attended Winona Elementary and Grandview High schools. She tried her hand at teaching after high school as a temporary teacher in a one room school (Grade 1 – 9). She started work at the Royal Bank in Roblin, MB (November, 1965) and was later transferred to the MacGregor & College branch in Winnipeg, MB. While in Winnipeg, she met the love of her life, Brian Cobb (also employed by the Royal Bank) and after a whirlwind courtship (and permission from the bank), they were married on May 10, 1969 at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Roblin. For the next 16 years, Lucy and Brian were transferred by the bank to eight places in three different provinces. During that time, they were blessed with two children, Tamara (1970 in Winnipeg) and Tyler (1972 in Nelson, BC) who became their focus with each move making sure they were both settled and happy in each new community. In 1985, they moved to Regina, SK, where she resided until her passing. It was while residing in Carlyle, SK (1981-85) that Lucy took up painting after meeting Michael Lonechild and attending one of his classes. In addition to her passion for painting, Lucy also started her business, Cottage Studio, which included many different things like candles, gift baskets, hand-painted jewelry, flax packs, etc. She became an accomplished artist with many shows with the Aurora Art Guild and the Brushworks Art Guild over the years, taking every art class she could and teaching many herself. Her talent was endless and her family is incredibly proud of the legacy of her art. Indeed, so many have been able to share in Lucy’s artistic talents, with paintings proudly displayed in their own homes. Lucy retired from the Royal Bank in 2005 and she and Brian spent several winters in Victoria, BC and Indio, CA, which fueled her love of shopping and boy, could she shop! She also loved to watch her grandson, Nathan, in all of his sports but especially travelling all over to see him play baseball. In 2013, Lucy, Tamara and Sylvia fulfilled one of Lucy’s “bucket-list” items with a 2-week tour of France where they visited all the great art galleries and wineries. In 2006, Lucy was diagnosed with CLL and in 2017, lung and brain cancer. Despite the advanced stage of her cancer and an initial prognosis of only a few months, she fought hard and was able to create many more memories with her family for the next 3 ½ years. In 2019, her whole family celebrated Lucy’s and Brian’s 50th anniversary in Puerto Pinasco, Mexico for 2 weeks, which was another milestone she didn’t think she would make. This fall, when her cancer was getting more aggressive, she fought hard to be at home to celebrate another Christmas (even though virtually) with her whole family. The family would like to thank Dr. Mirjana Zarkovic and Dr. Nelson Leong for being Lucy’s amazing oncologists throughout her battle. As well, we would like to extend a huge thank you to the very compassionate Palliative Care team and especially nurses Scott and Patraicia, Musical Therapist Melinda and OT Pamela and coordinator, Kendra as well as the nurses in 3B and finally in 3A. Without each of them, we wouldn’t have been able to give Lucy the quality of life and memories she wanted the last few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lucy’s name may be made to the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit, the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan (Regina) for the benefit of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 200-4545 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK, S4W 0G3 or a charity of your choice. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private Memorial Service will be held for family at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 Victoria Avenue East in Regina, SK, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to tune in to a livestream of the service, may do so at www.victoriaavenuefuneral.com on the day of the Memorial.
