Flor was born in the Philippines during World War II. During high school, she captained the volleyball team to become Central Luzon Champions and graduated with honours. She graduated as valedictorian from the Ortanez School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse in the Philippines for three years than accepted a job at the Regina General Hospital. After a two year stint in Yankton, South Dakota, she returned to Regina, married Fred Illingworth and had their daughter, Mary-Ellen.
Flor expressed her creativity in many ways through gardening, cooking, crafting and sewing. She loved travelling and didn’t even let having to home dialysis prevent her from going to her last nursing school reunion. She was also a founding member of the Philippine Cultural Society of Regina and taughter folk dancing and Filippine Language Classes.
Flor was predeceased by her mother, Elena; her father Ciriaco and her stepfather Silverio. She is survived by her husband Fred; her daughter Mary-Ellen; her sisters Edna and Violeta; her brother Danilo; close cousin Ofelia and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Kidney Health Centre and the Allan Blair Cancer Centre for their support during her illnesses and the staff of the Regina General Hospital and of 2-5 of the Wascana Rehailitation Centre for their care of Flor during her stay.
