It is our sad news to share that James Michael Egan, “Jim,” age 75, of Detroit, Michigan, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Sinai Grace Hospital as a result of an acute episode of respiratory failure.
Loving brother of Joan (Roger) Kolassa, Patricia Stanton, Robert (Arlene Frank) Egan. Dear brother-in-law of Barbara Egan. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Michael and Mary Egan and his siblings Thomas George Egan and Dianne Egan.
Jim was an active member of the Teamsters Union, spending time furthering his education in Labor Studies at Wayne State University. He became more private when his health began to decline, however he remained dedicated to the cause of worker’s rights.
Jim remained an ardent Democrat and had been pushing to make sure that he would get his absentee ballot in the mail for the upcoming election. Sorry that you will not get your wish.
For those of you reading this, whether sibling, cousin, nephew, extended family, friend, coworker, or acquaintance, you should know the following. During a brief period of lucidity, Jim was aware of, and at peace with, his impending death. “It’s really happening! Just let it go.” In his last coherent conversation, he talked about notifying people stating, “Tell them all thanks!”
Jim did not want funeral home visitations, services, flowers, or cards. He wanted everybody to, “Have a big party!” So, please join the party! Enjoy a night out, a delicious dinner, or a favorite bottle of wine with friends and loved ones in Jim’s honor and memory.
