Eileen Grougan was born in the border town of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 15, 1926 to Andrew and Lareta Robbins. She was one of six children. Eileen passed away in Livonia, Michigan on July 10, 2017 at the age of 91.
Eileen was the beloved wife of Robert George Grougan for 43 years until he went to prepare a place for her in Heaven in 1989. He was the only love she ever had or ever wanted. Loving mother of Jane Grougan, Kenneth (Hanh) Grougan, Andrew (Carol) Grougan, Paul (Cheryl) Grougan, Sharon (Darrol) Mackay, and Scott (Hillary) Grougan. Dear grandma or "Grammy" of Minh (Sandy) Grougan, Proung (Brian) Terski, Andy Grougan, Katie (Michael) Watrous, Nick (Chelsea) Grougan, Alex (Sarah) Grougan, Patrick (Sammy) Mackay, Shaun Mackay and David Grougan. Proud great-grandmother of Ryan Grougan, Danial Watrous, Emma Terski, Fiona Watrous, Melody Mackay, Tai Grougan, Hannah Grougan, Georgia Rue Grougan, and Jamison Mackay. Sister of the late Ken Robbins, Rosie Evans, the late Lorraine Leahy, Margerett Simpkins and Bill Robbins. Eileen also leaves behind to mourn, her very special friends and neighbors, Pat and Rose Makowski as well as their two children who Eileen has adopted as her own "grandsons", Andrew and Joseph Makowski. Eileen has thought of Andrew and Joseph as her grandsons since the day they were born and they were a huge part of her life. They will always refer to her as grandma.
Eileen was raised on a farm in Sault St. Marie and that is where her love of nature and all animals grew. In her later years she loved to work in her flower garden and she tended to the neighborhood birds and she was known to have the "fattest squirrels around". However, she loved her cat Tabitha most of all up until the very end.
Eileen had a passion for her family and her family was her job. She was a stay at home mom which wasn't easy with six children running around. However, she was a spitfire and kept all of them in line together with her husband Robert. They were very active parents in everything from little league to scouting. Eileen was even a den-mother. They loved to go "up north" to the property in Hesperia, Michigan. When the kids were older, Eileen and Robert loved to travel all over with car shows and sell pins and patches as a side hobby. They never slowed down, they simply had a ball.
In her later years, in her free time she loved spending time with her family and going to bingo, still never missing a beat. Her passion, extreme generosity, fun-loving personality, and high energy, will be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to know her.
Eileen's family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 4-8pm and again on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 10-12:30pm followed by a funeral service at 12:30pm, led by Reverend Mark Raitz at Harry J.
